The AI Software Rally May Have Started—but This Will Not Be a Broad SaaS Rebound

From MSFT platform distribution to PLTR/NOW enterprise deployment and broader evidence from CRM, CRWD and FIG

Updated · 2026.08.28Human reviewed
ONE-LINE CONCLUSION

MSFT first proved scaled AI distribution. PLTR and NOW then proved production-system and workflow deployment; CRM, CRWD and FIG broaden that evidence into selective leadership—not a broad SaaS rebound.

01

Previous view

Our call did not begin with Salesforce. MSFT was always the AI Core and platform-distribution case—AI Platform Beta+—while PLTR and NOW represented the higher-beta Enterprise AI Alpha layer. On August 12, we still called the flow shift an early rotation and expected clearer leadership later in the year, particularly Q4.

02

MSFT | Platform and scaled distribution

MSFT supplies the broadest commercialization proof. AI is distributed through Azure, Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot and Dynamics into existing enterprise budgets. In FY2026, Azure revenue surpassed $100 billion, Microsoft 365 Copilot exceeded 30 million paid seats, and quarterly Microsoft Cloud revenue reached $59.3 billion, up 27%. This validates platform distribution, cross-selling and cash-flow absorption.

03

PLTR / NOW | Production systems and workflows

PLTR and NOW supplied the enterprise-application evidence. Palantir Q2 2026 U.S. commercial revenue grew 149% year over year to $764 million and guidance rose again. ServiceNow beat subscription expectations and raised its outlook; workflow, data, permissions and governance let it embed agents into real budgets and daily operations.

04

CRM / CRWD / FIG | Cross-model diffusion

Agentforce ARR exceeded $1.5 billion, up more than 240% year over year. CrowdStrike generated $377 million of Q2 FY2027 free cash flow. Figma Q2 revenue grew 48%, with its first full quarter of AI-credit monetization. MSFT proved scaled distribution, PLTR/NOW proved deployment, and CRM/CRWD/FIG show diffusion.

05

What changed—and what did not

The timing call moves forward: software leadership may already have started, and Q4 now looks more like a broadening and confirmation window. This is not hardware being replaced by software; it is leadership broadening while infrastructure demand remains intact.

06

Where alpha is likely to cluster

The strongest candidates combine critical workflow ownership, proprietary data or context, customer lock-in through permissions and processes, and usage-based monetization. MSFT is the platform core; PLTR the enterprise decision hub; NOW the workflow and agent control layer; CRM, CRWD and FIG represent selective expansion.

07

What we watch next

  • MSFT Copilot paid seats, Azure AI consumption and cloud margin absorption
  • PLTR U.S. commercial growth
  • NOW agent monetization, subscriptions and RPO
  • Whether Agentforce lifts CRM organic growth
  • CRWD free cash flow and FIG AI-credit revenue
  • Sustained software relative strength versus semiconductors and QQQ
08

What would invalidate the view?

The call would weaken if MSFT platform monetization and PLTR/NOW workflow commercialization decelerate together, newer AI ARR fails to lift total growth, or leadership remains confined to isolated post-earnings gaps.
